Adrian Guldemond, educator, advocate, author, and gardener reflects on his personal journey. Immigrating to Canada during the Cold War 1950s, making professional choices during the revolutionary 1960s and reading Mad Magazine during French classes. Tensions between the family ethos and the constraints of the Dutch Reformed subculture encouraged questions about cultural assimilation in Red Tory Ontario. Professional experiences in the school systems led to development of an organic model for independent education in Canada. The personal and professional insights over six decades are shared on this site.

The educational message is simple. The 19th century witnessed a revolution in education through which the State replaced the Church as the Nation’s official educator. Religion was replaced by Science.

The 20th century turned the little red schoolhouse of yore into a massive, centralized industry of bureaucrats. The 21st century must decentralize the school systems and give communities the resources to re-invent schools. Let’s revise the mindscapes controlling education. An actual working example of such an innovative alternative is described in Dr. Guldemond’s latest book.

This 2022 book describes the growth of a group of faith-based schools, around a common vision.
